John B. (Red) Cummings, Jr. was born in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1945 the only child of John B. and Angela K. Cummings. The family first rented in Westport Harbor in August 1953 in the house his parents subsequently purchased and where the family spent the first couple of hours of Hurricane Carol on August 31, 1954. The property has been in his family ever since. After stepping down as the President of the United Way of Greater Fall River, Inc. he and his wife, Paula constructed a year-round home where they presently reside overlooking the ocean.

This is Red’s first solo publishing venture. He was the co-author in 2007 of From Little Acorns to Giant Oaks - a 50-year history of the non-profit Greater Fall River Development Corporation. Within the book he authored the second 25-year history from 1980-2005.

A graduate of Portsmouth Priory School, and after a successful career in banking and the non-profit world, he received a B.S. degree from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. He is also a licensed real estate broker and owns Cummings Group Realtors with his wife.

He is the father of two sons and grandfather of four. His sons and now his grandchildren have been brought up in Westport Harbor experiencing everything but a massive, destructive tropical storm.
